Day Trading Limits

What is day trading limits

day trading limits mean that you buy and sell the same stock on the same market day. It is important to note that the order of these transactions does not matter. This means that if you sell a stock on the same day and place an order to buy the same stock, it will still be a one-day transaction.

What is my daily transaction limit

When you use Cash App Investments to buy stocks, you are limited to 3 working days during the 5-day trading period. This restriction applies to day trading of the same or different stocks. This means that regardless of the shares traded, the day trading limits in your account will apply for a total of 3 days within 5 days. For example, you can buy and sell ABC stock on Monday. This is your first working day. Then you buy and sell XYZ stock on the same day. This will be the second day of your business. In this example, even if its stock is traded, you only have one day to trade.

What happens if I reach my daily trading limit

If you exceed the daily trading limits, you can buy and sell shares, unless you trade in one day.

  • Monday:
  • Buy and sell ABC shares – 2 transactions equivalent to one trading day.
  • Tuesday:
  •  Buy and Sell EFG Shares, Buy and Sell XYZ Shares – 4 Transactions 2 Day Trading
  • Wednesday:
  •  Buy ABC shares – 1 trade.

In this scenario, you exceeded the day trading limit after buying and selling XYZ on Tuesday. Because of this limitation, you can buy ABC on Wednesday, but you won’t be able to sell it on the open market until Thursday. In this case, the next day you can trade the next day will be the following months.

How long will it take to reset my daily trading limit

The 5-day trading period is based on when the market is open (usually Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST, excluding holidays). It is important to note that this 5-day running period is based on market days only. Weekends and holidays are not included in the 5 days. This means that the one-day trading limit can cover different weeks.

  • Tuesday
  • Buy ABC shares, sell ABC shares, buy ABC shares, sell ABC shares – 4 total trades 2-day trading
  • Wednesday
  •  Buy and sell ABC shares – 2 trades for a total of one-day trades.

In this example, the user reached the transaction limit of 3 days, Tuesday being the first day of the 5-day running period. As the stock market does not open on Saturdays and Sundays, they are not included in this period. The next day you can trade one day is next Tuesday as it will be completely out of your 5 days running period.
